The Second Best Place to Listen to the Memorial Day 350 Countdown
WELCOME TO MD350 RADIO
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Maybe not so far, more like 40 miles north of Cincinnati,and more like September 1983, a small radio station by the call letters WOXY,or 97X as it was known, broadcasted it’s first song, “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” in hopes of gaining a following. Soon after WOXY began it’s annual broadcast of the Modern Rock 500 counting down the top 500 modern rock songs of all time on Memorial Day Weekend. The Modern Rock 500 evolved with the music, featuring The Smiths, U2, Pavement, Nirvana and countless other ground breaking bands for decades. The countdown became a beloved, must listen for many and eventually became the soundtrack to back yard Memorial Day celebrations much like the Annual JVK Memorial Day Party.
Time went on and the landscape of the airwaves changed. After a progression from terrestrial radio to an online stream, before the countdown could see 2010, the WOXY stream ended, leaving listeners everywhere with a void on their presets and a question…"What do we listen to on Memorial Day?"
To fill the void, a group of like minded folks, lead by a fan known to most as JVK, voted, ranked and began our own tradition…of spending Memorial Day Weekend, surrounded by friends and counting down 350 of our collective favorite songs of all times. As luck and a cleverly designed algorithm would have it many of the WOXY favorites are still included. BAM the future of rock and roll continued…. And the countdown rolls on…
